AAGAARD ANDERSEN (Danish / 1919-1982)

The Danish sculptor, painter, architect and furniture designer Gunnar Aagaard Andersen was born in Ordrup in 1919. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he was later to be a teacher. Aagaard Andersen was part of the worldwide Concrete Art movement, in which all types of figuration were avoided in favour the purity of the "concrete" elements of art, such as form and colour. As a member from 1951 of Groupe Espace in Paris, Aagaard Andersen was also affiliated with the Italian group MAC, Movimento Arte Concreta. Aagaard Andersen died in Munkerup in 1982.
