JOSEF ACHMANN (German / 1885-1958)

The Expressionist painter and printmaker Josef Achmann was born in Regensburg in 1885. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1917 he had a joint exhibition in Munich with Max Pechstein, George Grosz, and Erich Heckel. In 1935, Josef Achmann was banned from creating art by the Nazis, who condemned his work as "degenerate". He died in Schliersee in 1958.
