KATHE KOLLWITZ – Der Sturm (The Riot), 1897
Sheet size: 235 x 330 mm
Image size: 230 x 285 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown; scarce – Unsigned
Original etching and mezzotint by Käthe Kollwitz, plate 6 of her cycle Ein Weberaufstand (The Weavers' Revolt). Usually known as Der Sturm (The Riot), this etching was published by the Leipzig art revue Zeitschrift für Bildende Kunst in 1905 under the title Am Parktor (At the Park Gate). Our copy is from this edition. There are no printed credits. The etching plate was really too deep for the journal, so that there are just 5mm of margin at the bottom of the sheet, and absolutely no margin at the top - the sheet has been cut at the very top of the image, even removing the plate mark at the top. The whole image is present. So this etching - which is otherwise in lovely condition - needs to be framed right up to the edges of the image. Ref: Klipstein 33 Condition: Very good, see description.
