ANDRE MIKHAILOVITCH LANSKOY – Dieu dit: Faisons l'homme dans notre image, 1966
Sheet size: 605 x 480 mm
Edition: 125 – Unsigned
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." The Hasidic master Rabbi Nahman of Bratslav translated "Let us make man in our image" as "Let us make man with an imagination". Original lithograph by André Lanskoy, printed by Mourlot on vélin d'Arches. André Lanskoy's version of the Book of Genesis was published by Les Bibliophiles de l'Union Française in an edition strictly limited to 125 copies. Our print does not come from one of these books, but from a portfolio of proofs. We have found no record of the commercial existence of such portfolios, and ours evidently belonged to either the printer, publisher or artist; some of the proofs are untrimmed, and the white edges on these contain pencil annotations concerned with the composition of the book. These oversize prints are in excellent condition with the very occasional tiny nick at the edge. Ref: Monod 5242. Condition: Excellent, see description.
