HERBERT VON AREND – Le jardin d'amour, 1981 (1932)
Sheet size: 295 x 210 mm
Edition: 50 – Signed by artist
Original silkscreen in three colours by Herbert von Arend, created in 1981 after a drawing made at the Bauhaus in 1932. Signed in full in pencil and dated 1932/81; numbered 27/50. Please note that the artist has signed, dated, and numbered this print on the verso, so that the signature would inevitably be concealed once the print was framed. Presumably he did not wish to disrupt the balance of the image, which fills the entire sheet. This silkscreen was published in one of the 50 special copies of no. 36 of the art revue Symbol: zeitschrift für bildende kunst und lyrik, edited by Wolfgang Wangler. The original graphics included in the special copies of Symbol were loosely inserted in the magazine. As this silkscreen print is very slightly wider than the magazine itself, there is slight creasing on the extreme righthand edge of the sheet. We have two of the 50 copies, and both have suffered exactly the same very minor damage to the righthand edge. Condition: Very good, see description.
