Original colour etching with aquatint by Édouard Chimot, signed in the plate. Printed on a hand press on wove paper (watermarks: MBM, J. Perrigo) by Eugène Delâtre with the assistance of the artist, in his Montmartre studio. One of Chimot's 12 etchings for Les soirs d'opium, a collection of poems by his friend Maurice Magre, published in 1921 iby L'Édition (G. Briffaut) in an edition of 500 numbered copies plus 13 extras. As was usual with French fine editions, these copies were on various papers, of which 384 were on vergé d'Arches (the etchings, however, are on J. Perrigo wove paper, as stated above). From exemplaire 460/500. After printing the plates were cancelled. This is the definitive state of the etching; three other "states" exist, one in 54 copies, one in 69 copies, and one in 129 copies. Condition: Excellent.
