MARY NIMMO MORAN – 'Tween the Gloamin' and the Mirk, When the Kye Come Hame, 1883
Sheet size: 350 x 450 mm
Image size: 190 x 280 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown; scarce – Signed in plate
Original etching and roulette by Mary Nimmo Moran, signed and dated in the plate. The title is taken from a Scottish ballad, but the scene is in Long Island, where Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran spent their summers. This large etching was executed for Original Etchings by American Artists by Sylvester Rosa Koehler, published by Cassell and Company in 1883. Printed in brown on heavy wove paper; no details are given as to the printer. No print-run is given, but it must have been small, as both the original work and the individual plates are very scarce. This sought-after etching, with its brooding mezzotint-like atmosphere (achieved by use of the roulette) is in excellent condition, with just a little discoloration to the outer margins of the sheet, not affecting the etching in any way. There is also discoloration on the verso of the sheet. Ref: Klackner 29. Condition: Very good.
