GUSTAVE ASSIRE –
Le choix, 1926
Watercolour/gouache
Sheet size: 150 x 195 mm
Image size: 130 x 180 mm
Edition: Unique – Signed by artist
Drawing by Gustave Assire. Pen and watercolour on paper, signed and dated G. Assire 1926 lower left. Securely tipped onto a larger sheet of Japon paper (218 x 263). This image of a client making his choice in the salon of a maison close forms part of Assire's meticulous research for his classic suite of etchings on the subject of prostitution in 1920s Paris, Images Secrètes de Paris, published by René Kieffer with an accompanying text by Pierre Mac Orlan. Each of the 50 exemplaires du tête contained an original watercolour by Gustave Assire, of a subject not repeated in the etchings. This came from no. 41. Condition: Fine.
