ANDRE MIKHAILOVITCH LANSKOY – Alors Yaweh Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l'homme, 1966
Sheet size: 605 x 480 mm
Edition: 125 – Unsigned
"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man." Original lithograph by André Lanskoy, printed by Mourlot on vélin d'Arches. André Lanskoy's version of the Book of Genesis was published by Les Bibliophiles de l'Union Française in an edition strictly limited to 125 copies. Our print does not come from one of these books, but from a portfolio of proofs. We have found no record of the commercial existence of such portfolios, and ours evidently belonged to either the printer, publisher or artist; some of the proofs are untrimmed, and the white edges on these contain pencil annotations concerned with the composition of the book. These oversize prints are in excellent condition with the very occasional tiny nick at the edge. Ref: Monod 5242. Condition: Excellent, see description.
