LUCIEN PISSARRO – Avril, 1919
Linocut
Sheet size: 270 x 180 mm
Image size: 95 x 85 mm
Edition: c.1500 – Unsigned
Original linocut by Lucien Pissarro. We are guessing this is a linocut; it is identified in the caption as a "gravure au canif", which simply means an engraving made with a pen-knife; linoleum is the obvious material into which to engrave with knife, and it certainly looks like a linocut. Published in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts, in an article on Lucien Pissarro by Noël Clement-Janin. The print-run of the Gazette is unknown but generally said to be around 1500. The bottom left-hand corner of the sheet is slightly bumped, well away from the engraving. There is text above, below, and on the reverse. Condition: Excellent, see description.
