AMANDINE DORE – Applying scent, 1961
Sheet size: 255 x 160 mm
Image size: 200 x 130 mm
Edition: 22 – Unsigned
An original hand-coloured drypoint from one of 22 suites in colour accompanying the deluxe copies of Amandine Doré's edition of Les Sonnettes ou le Carillon Libertin by Jean-Baptiste Guiard de Servigné, published in an edition of 500 copies on Grand vélin d'Arches. The book was not commercially available, all the copies being reserved for "Une société d'amateurs". As well as the 22 hand-coloured suites of the prints there were additionally 132 black-and-whites suites; we also possess one of these. Doré's illustrations for Les Sonnettes are simply called "gravures originales" on the title page; I judge them to be drypoints. No details are given of who printed or coloured them. Sold with a copy of the limitation page, this being copy 7/500. Condition: Fine.
