Original etching by William Brassey Hole (1846-1917) after a painting by Camille Jean-Baptiste Corot. With the signatures of both Hole and Corot etched in the plate. One of 115 copies on Japan paper with wide margins, from the Memorial Catalogue of the French and Dutch loan collection at the Edinburgh International Exhibition of 1886. Printed by T & A Constable at the Edinburgh University Press, and published by David Douglas. 520 copies were printed of this lavish catalogue, which included 14 etchings after masters of the Barbizon and Hague Schools by Philip Zilcken and William Brassey Hole, and an original etching by Bernardus Blommers. Copies 1 to 100 were on large paper with the etchings on Japan. Copies 101 to 505 were on smaller paper with the etchings on thick wove paper. Copies 505 to 520 were not for sale, and on large paper with full margins and the etchings on both Japan and on wove. Our copy is copy 518, with the etchings in both states.
