Image size: 160x105 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown, very scarce – Signed in plate
Portrait of the painter Camille Corot. Original etching by Léopold Massard, signed L. Massard in the plate. Below the image in type are the words C. Corot 1796-1875 and credits to the publisher and printer. Printed by A. Salmon on laid paper, published by Jouaust. Massard executed a series of etched portraits of French artists for the two-volume Peintres et sculpteurs contemporains by Jules Claretie. This is one of a number of these etchings which had been added by a connoisseur to a grangerised (individually extra-illustrated) copy of Julia Cartwright's Millet: His Life and Letters (1896); it has been tipped onto a larger backing laid backing sheet (340 x 240 mm). Condition: Excellent.
