HENRY SOMM – Allez dans les cafés et sur les boulevards, 1884
Sheet size: 185 x 105 mm
Image size: 100 x 65 mm
Edition: 170 – Signed in plate
Go into the cafes and onto the boulevards. Original etching by Henry Somm, signed in the plate. Printed by Auguste Delâtre on china paper. One of 170 copies "avant le lettre" for Ce qu'on n'ose pas dire by Auguste Saulier, published by E. Dentu in 1884. We also have a copy of this etching on wove paper with the printed credits to publisher, printer, and title. The total edition of Ce qu'on n'ose pas dire was 100 copies on laid Hollande, 50 copies on Chine, 20 on Japon, and a "tirage à petit nombre" on tinted wove. Only the first 170 also had copies of the etchings before the addition of the printed credits. Considering the fragility of the china paper, these etchings have survived remarkably well, but there is some inevitable wear at the edges of the sheet. This etching also has a stain in the top margin, well away from and not affecting the etching itself. Condition: Very good, see description.
