MARIO AVATI –
A s'y méprendre (Umbrellas), 1956
Etching/aquatint
Sheet size: 275x225 mm
Image size: 115x130 mm
Edition: 20 – Unsigned
Original etching with aquatint by Mario Avati. Printed by J.-J.-J. Rigal on "papier ancien". This etching was created for Avati's 1956 edition of Contes Cruels by Villiers de l'Isle Adam. The book was published in an edition of 220 copies, all on grand vélin de Rives, by the Cercle Grolier. Most of the etchings are printed in-texte. According to Dassonville, Les Livres Illustrés par Avati, there were also 20 suites of the etchings without text printed on Japon nacré and 20 on papier ancien. We have one of the suites on papier ancien, which is a cream laid paper of high quality; we do not know how old the paper is. Provenance: from the collection of the bibliophile M. Jacques André. Condition: Excellent.
